MarionZurbach

Marion Zurbach is the artistic director of Unplush Company. She creates choreographic and performative works that explore how virtuosity can emerge from a deep attentiveness to one’s relations with the world. Inspired by animal ethology her approach connects movement with the living, embracing a diversity of bodies within an artistic, ethical, and political framework. Her work focuses on cultural inheritances, marginal bodies, and collective narratives.

Born in Martigues (FR), Marion began her training at the École Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille, then joined the Atelier Rudra Béjart School in Lausanne. From 2006 to 2015, she danced with the Ballet National de Marseille and the Tanz Compagnie Konzert Theater Bern, amongst others. In 2018, she earned a master’s degree in Theatre and Performance from the Bern Academy of the Arts (HKB). The following year, Unplush received the June Johnson Dance Prize (Swiss Dance Awards).

She has been commissioned as a choreographer for the Cologne Opera (2019), Tanz Ensemble Luzerner Theater (2022), Tanz Bielefeld (2026). As a dramaturge, she has contributed to productions such as Festival Urban Dansdagen Eindhoven (2019) and Tankstelle Südpol (2022). As a dancer, she has collaborated with Boris Charmatz at the Manchester International Festival (2021).

With Unplush, her work has been presented at venues and festivals including Dampfzentrale Bern, Grütli Geneva, far° Nyon, KLAP Marseille, Festival Parallèle, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, Festival Artdanthé Vanves, and the Centre Culturel Suisse Paris.
