MarionZurbach

Marion Zurbach is the artistic director of Unplush. She creates choreographic, theatrical, and performative works. Inspired by animal ethology and speculative narration, her approach connects movement with the living and explores how virtuosity can emerge from fragility and attentive relations to the world. Her work engages with cultural legacies, marginal life forms, and collective narratives.

She is currently conducting research involving dance, pre-enactment and crip mutual aid, seeking to develop choreographic forms centred on issues of vulnerability and anticipation.

Born in Martigues (FR), Marion began her training at the École Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille, then joined the Atelier Rudra Béjart School in Lausanne. From 2006 to 2015, she danced with the Ballet National de Marseille and the Tanz Compagnie Konzert Theater Bern. In 2018, she earned a master’s degree in Theatre and Performance from the Bern Academy of the Arts (HKB). The following year, Unplush received the June Johnson Dance Prize (Swiss Dance Awards).

She has been commissioned as a choreographer for the Tanz Ensemble Luzerner Theater (2022) and Tanz Bielefeld (2026). As a dramaturge, she has contributed to productions such as Festival Urban Dansdagen Eindhoven (2019) and Tankstelle Südpol (2022). As a performer, she has collaborated with Boris Charmatz in Sea Change at the Manchester International Festival (2021).

With Unplush, her work has been presented at venues and festivals including Dampfzentrale Bern, Grütli Geneva, far° Nyon, KLAP Marseille, Festival Parallèle, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, Festival Artdanthé Vanves, Les Laboratoires d’Auvbervilliers, Festival Plastique Danse Flore and Centre Culturel Suisse Paris.

Marion offers dance improvisation and choreographic workshops for both professional and amateur dancers. Her approach focuses on care and co-dependencies.
