Summoningachorusofvilaines
In this solo, Marion Zurbach traces the path of a physical, aesthetic and political metamorphosis, from the hyper-performativity of the classical dancer to the impediment of illness. Suffering from a chronic joint disease, the choreographer asks herself questions about her body and its history. In the eyes of the norms, she now belongs to the anti-heroic representations, like the villain of the Romantic ballet whose figure she invokes. She extends the spectrum to the non-human, and is assimilated to the so-called “harmful” or “invasive” species. Inspired by these creatures on the fringes, she sets off in search of a poetics of impure and fantastic figures. The performance is a journey towards the activation of these real or fantasised presences.
Suspended movements, on the lookout; creatures lurking in an as yet unfulfilled future. Becoming harmful, sabotaging, corrupting, and enjoying the struggle. Transformation is a never-ending process, offered up by the flow of identities.
