Summoningachorusofvilaines

In this solo, Marion Zurbach traces a physical, aesthetic, and political metamorphosis, from the hyper-performativity of the classical dancer to the constraints of chronic illness. Questioning her body and its history, she embraces figures excluded from normative representations, echoing the villains of Romantic ballet. Extending this transformation beyond the human, she identifies with so-called “pests” and “invasive” species. Inspired by these marginal creatures, she searches for a poetics of impure, fantastic bodies. The performance activates these suspended presences, caught in an installation resembling natural history specimens, lurking within an as yet unrealized future.
